Q
: I think I may have shingles, but I am unsure. I have a scar from having a cesearn section, years ago and I have broken out on that where the skin folds over it. The only thing is it itches like crazy, and really does not hurt, just kind of burns a little. I have been using a staroid cream I had for hives, and that helps until I get to a Dr. My question is, with out the pain you talk about, could this be shingles? I have had it about a week.
Thanks Michelle Haggard

Answer
: Hello Michelle. It is very rare to have shingles without the pain, the rash and the pain are the two most characteristic symptoms of shingles. Have you had chicken pox before? That is the only way you will get shingles. The other symptoms are that the rash appears only on one side of the body, like a band or girdle. The skin in that area feels very tender and there is usually excruciating pain since the virus affects the nerve cells. You must see a doctor to get a proper diagnosis and start the correct treatment.
