Answer
: Shingles is not infectious in the same way as chickenpox, however, shingles is contagious. A person with shingles cannot pass on shingles but can give chicken pox to another person. Shingles can be passed on by direct contact with the fluid from shingles blisters. It cannot bespread by coughing or sneezing. Fluid from shingles blisters can cause chickenpox in people who are not already immune. The people who are at risk include babies and those who already are ill such as cancer patients. People with shingles should avoid those with a lowered immunity.
The rash from shingles takes about 1 to 3 weeks to heal. The rash contains active virus particles. So as long as a person has active lesions on the skin that have not dried up and crusted over he is infectious.
