Answer
: Hello Frank. The eyes are sometimes affected by herpes zoster. This is
due to the fact that the eyes are connected to nerves that may be
infected with the herpes zoster virus. An infection near the eyes or
on the tip of the nose can also spread to the eyes, upper or lower
eyelids. Shingles can also cause infection in the conjuctiva (the
membrane covering the white of the eye), or the cornea. There is also
the threat to the optic nerve or the retina.
You should ask your doctor specifically if you are worried about
shingles leading to loss of vision. If you are still not satisfied
then you can also consult an opthalmologist (eye doctor) to completely
rule out any risk to your eyes.
