Q :  Can shingles become caused or initiated by acupuncture? I recently received acupuncture, my skin became sore, and now I have the classic symptoms of shingles. Coincidence? I am a 45 year old healthy male.

Answer : Hello Dan. You must first consult a good doctor to make sure that your symptoms are indeed that of shingles. To get Shingles you must have had a chicken pox infection previously since it is the reactivation of the same virus. There is no clear evidence to suggest that acupuncture can cause shingles, in fact many people suffering from severe shingles related pain often take acupuncture treatment to get relief from pain.
