Q :  I had chicken pox as a kid and my neighbors kid recently got them. I am 37 and now have a very painful bump on the left back side of my head that appeared. It feels just like I have a nail stuck in my head. It burns and I am consumed with finding relief from the pain. As I can't see it, I am not sure if it is a blister or not. Is it possible to get shingles from someone who has chickenpox? I am under alot of stress and fatigue as well, but wondered if exposure to the virus can trigger some outbreak as well.

Answer : Hello Melissa. You can only get shingles if you had a chicken pox infection in your life. The virus is already in your body and gets re-activated under certain circumstances. You cannot get shingles from a person who has chicken pox. If you suspect you have shingles then you must consult your physician. Too much stress can trigger off a shingles attack in some people, however you will not get shingles from your neighbour’s son. You must see a doctor at the earliest for your pain.
